Seniors, Watch Out for These Signs that It's Time to Stop Driving Seniors, Watch Out for These Signs that It's Time to Stop Driving

Look out for these signs that it's time to stop driving.

Getting older doesn't automatically mean that you have to stop driving. However it's important to you constantly assess your driving abilities in a non-biased way. Keep in mind that unsafe driving doesn't just place yourself at risk, it is also dangerous for other drivers and other innocent parties. Here are some of the signs that it's time to hang up your keys for good.
  • Difficulty with Operating a Vehicle
If you notice that you are confusing your gas and brake pedals more frequently, this is a clear indication that you are not safe to drive. Additionally, if you find yourself moving your entire leg to switch between pedals rather than keeping your heel on the ground and pressing the pedal with your toes, then this could be assign of waning leg strength and control. This is also an indication that it's time to stop driving.
  • Lack of Awareness
Another sign that it's time to stop driving is realizing that you are not as aware of surroundings as you used to be. Unfortunately, this sign might be hard to recognize on your own. However, if your passengers have mentioned that you have missed traffic signals (particularly stop signs) or have been struggling to keep up with the flow of traffic (either driving too slowly or unintentionally speeding), then these are both indications that it's not safe for you to drive.
  • Confusion
Finally, if you often find yourself confused while behind the wheel, then this is a clear indication that you are no longer safe to drive. For instance, if you find yourself becoming lost even in familiar locations or if you find yourself not remembering where you are going, it's probably time to stop driving. These are some of the signs that it's time to stop driving.  While this is obviously a difficult decision to make, it's important for your safety and the safety of those around you.  Want another way to stay safe while on the road?  Then make sure you have the proper auto insurance protections in place.  For assistance with your insurance needs, contact the experts at Club Agency Insurance Brokerage in Garden City, New York.  We are ready to get you the coverage that you need today.
