Tips to Help You Stay Safe if Your Tire Pops on the RoadLearn what to do if your tire pops on the road.

A flat tire can be a headache, but when your tire pops while on the road, driving can suddenly become extremely dangerous. While there are many reasons that your tire could pop while out driving, it's of the utmost importance to know what to do if you're faced with such a situation. Check out these tips to help prepare you for disaster on the road so that you know what to do if a tire blows while you're driving.

Don't Panic.

A tire blowout is scary, but it's important to stay calm. When you stay calm, you're better able to take control of the situation so that you can safely regain control and move off to the side of the road.

Slowly Ease Off the Gas.

Avoid slamming on the brakes! After a blowout you're missing a tire and braking suddenly can damage your car and make it difficult to control your vehicle. Instead, keep your foot on the gas and slowly ease up so that you gradually slow down until you can come to a stop.

Regain Control of the Vehicle.

When you lose a tire, it can be difficult to control your vehicle. Your vehicle will automatically pull toward where the tire popped. Take firm hold of the steering wheel so that you're able to do your best to control your car.

Safely Pull Off to the Roadside.

Once you've stabilized the vehicle and have regained control, it's important to move safely off the road, away from traffic. When it's safe, carefully pull over to the side of the road. Only exit the car once it's safe and turn on your hazard lights to ensure that you're seen. Call for help and be vigilant of other cars on the road. Stay protected on the road at all times.
