Precautions to Prevent Frozen Pipes Precautions to Prevent Frozen Pipes

Take these steps to prevent your pipes from freezing this winter.

When temperatures drop, your chances of your pipes freezing increase dramatically.  Unfortunately, frozen pipes can burst, causing extensive and costly damage to your home.  If you want to prevent your pipes from freezing this winter, take some of these precautions around your home.
  • Leave Your Heat On
The best way to prevent your pipes from freezing over is by keeping your thermostat set to at least 55° F at all times.  While you might think it's a waste to leave your heat on, the costs associated with heating your home pale in comparison to the repair costs you would face if your pipes froze and burst.
  • Leave Your Doors Open
When you leave the doors in your home open, you are facilitating the spread of heat throughout your home.  As most of your home's piping runs behind your cabinetry, be particularly careful to open up your cabinet doors.  This will ensure that your pipes are staying warm enough to prevent freezing.
  • Let Your Faucets Drip
When pipes freeze, it is actually the built-up water pressure that causes them to burst.  If you fear that your pipes are going to freeze, letting your faucets drip slightly will relieve this water pressure.  This in turn will ensure that your pipes don't burst. Try out these tips to help you prevent your pipes from freezing and bursting this winter.  Want another way to protect your home this season?  Make sure you have the right home insurance protections in place.  To get the right policies to fit your needs, contact the team at Club Agency Insurance Brokerage.  Our dedicated professionals are ready to assist you with all your insurance needs.
