Money-Saving Tips for Students: Auto Insurance Money-Saving Tips for Students: Auto Insurance

How students can save on their car coverage.

As a student, the last thing that you want to spend money on is your auto insurance.  Rather than settling for less coverage, there are other things that students can do to save on their auto policies.  Here are some of the money-saving strategies that students should try. Improve Your Grades Most insurers offer good student discounts.  This is because statistics show that good students are less likely to get into auto accidents.  Typically, you must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher or be named on your school's dean's list to qualify for good student discounts.  It is also important to note that these discounts are usually only offered to full-time students under the age of 25.  You will need to provide proof of your grades (with a verified report card, transcript, or letter signed by a school administer) to access the discount. Drive a Cheap-to-Insure Car Luxury cars and cars with larger engines tend to be more expensive to insure.  This is because insurance companies have different rating classes depending on the car that you drive.  As your rating class is a major factor that affects your premiums, it's in your best interest to choose a car that's cheaper to insure.  So, if you are riding around in a brand-new sports car, then you might want to switch over to a reasonably priced SUV or sedan to save on your coverage. Increase Your Deductible Your deductible is the amount of money that you agree to pay towards a claim before your auto insurance coverage kicks in.  Your deductible and premiums have an inverse relationship meaning that the higher your deductible, the lower your premiums will be.  However, it's important that you do not set your deductible too high.  While this move will help you save on your rates, it could prevent you from accessing your coverage if you cannot afford to pay your deductible. These are some of the ways that students can save on their auto insurance.  Looking to find the right car coverage to fit your needs and your budget?  If so, then contact the experts at Club Agency Insurance Brokerage in Garden City, New York.  We are ready to get you the coverage that you need today.
