How To Keep Your Home Safe While on Vacation How To Keep Your Home Safe While on Vacation
Couple sitting in back of car Home Security Tips The official start of summer is just a couple of days away, which means that it is time to start planning for your summer vacation. While you are packing up all of your swim suits and sunscreen, it is important to make sure that you know how to keep your home safe while you are gone. Keep these tips in mind to keep your home safe this season.
  • Enlist the help of your neighbors - ask your trusted neighbors to keep an eye out while you are gone. If they see anything suspicious, ask them to call the police. You may even want to give them a key to check on your house. Also, ask them to park one of their cars in your driveway so that it does not look like your house is empty.
  • Lock everything - right before you walk out the door, take a lap around your house to make sure that all of your windows and doors are locked, even the ones that are on the second story. Burglars will make the extra effort to get onto the second story of your house if they find an open window.
  • Keep paying your gardener - an overgrown yard is a sure sign that nobody is home. If you will be gone for an extended period of time, make sure that your gardener continues cutting your lawn and trimming your bushes to make your home look like someone is present.
  • Put a hold on your mail - ask the post office to hold your mail until you get back. If a burglar sees a full mailbox, they will assume that nobody is home and be more likely to break in.
